At least 36,000 Sudanese have evacuated since capture of El Fasher to RSF, says UN agency
More than 36,000 people have fled Sudan's Kordofan territory east of Darfur starting Saturday, as reported by the UN's migration agency.
The important central zone between the country's Darfur provinces and the Khartoum-Riverine region has during recent weeks become the recent fighting area in the extended civil war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary forces.
Significant Displacement Numbers
An approximated 36,825 people evacuated from five districts in North Kordofan region between 26 October and 31 October, as reported by the International Organization for Migration.
The individuals, mainly traveling by foot, moved toward Tawila, a town western side of El Fasher that is currently housing more than 652,000 displaced people.
Increased Military Presence
Citizens of North Kordofan on Monday described a substantial rise in both RSF and army deployment across communities throughout the state.
Both forces are contesting control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a critical supply and command hub that joins Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have gathered at the Bara front here," said an RSF member in a recently shared video statement.
Area Citizens Report Safety Fears
A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, stated that the quantity of RSF vehicles had increased substantially since the group's capture of El Fasher.
"We discontinued traveling to our farms, concerned about confrontations," the individual commented.
Another inhabitant, who asked to remain unnamed for safety concerns, also indicated that "there has been a substantial growth in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the previous fortnight.
World Concerns and Calls
A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "widespread abuses" and "race-driven revenge attacks" by RSF in Bara.
The representative warned of patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been accused of mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against specific ethnic communities.
The spiritual head on Sunday called for an quick cessation of hostilities and the creation of aid passageways in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are creating unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and declared that the Sudanese government would not engage with the militia organization.
The representative further called on the world nations to classify the group as a terrorist organisation.
