Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
