Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Execution
Democratic officials voiced outrage after the ex-president charged a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "turncoats" and stated they should be taken into custody and sentenced "with execution" following their posting of a disputed video.
The Content That Sparked the Dispute
The clip, shared on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic elected officials who previously acted in armed forces or security capacities.
"As we did, you all made an vow to protect and support this national charter," the representatives stated in the 90-second video. "Currently, the threats to our governing document are not only from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our statutes are clear, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can reject illegal orders, you should refuse unlawful commands. No one has to carry out directives that break the law or our national charter."
Trump's Furious Reaction
The recorded statement appeared to trigger a heated reply from the ex-president.
On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."
In another publication, he declared: "This is really serious, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their statements cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"
In a subsequent message, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"
Party Representatives Respond
Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Top Democrats published a unified declaration condemning the remarks.
"Violent politics has no role in this nation," they wrote. "Congress members who participated in the video all served our country with tremendous loyalty and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous threats of violence against congressional representatives, and urge GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."
The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in communication with security officials "to make certain the security of these officials and their relatives."
"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme digital publications and withdraw his dangerous rhetoric before he leads to violence," the announcement continued.
Lawmakers' Defiant Answer
The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a response.
"We serve as veterans and national security professionals who value this country and swore an oath to defend and support the constitution of the United States," they stated. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we plan to keep it. No intimidation, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that fundamental responsibility."
"The most revealing aspect is that the president deems it punishable by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should know that we have their backs as they execute their oath to the constitution and obligation to adhere to only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our duty."
They continued: "The entire nation must join forces and condemn the ex-president's requests for our murder and political violence. This is a time for principled stance."
Further Governmental Comments
The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's remarks and shared on online networks: "It's important to understand: the former president is requesting the death of elected officials."
He continued: "This represents an clear THREAT. All senators, each house member, every American – without partisan consideration – should condemn this right away and unconditionally."
The GOP leader supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", stating: "It is very dangerous, you have leading members of the government advising military personnel to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."
The Conservative representative also reportedly informed the press that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the violation of treason" but that "legal experts have to examine the language and decide all that."
Executive Branch Statement
During a executive branch meeting on that day, when questioned by a media member, "Is the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative answered: "Absolutely not."
"It's important to note about what the former president is reacting to," the representative stated. "You have active officials of the American legislature who conspired to arrange a digital communication to members of the national defense, to active duty service members advising them to disobey the president's proper directives."
She said: "The purity of our military rests on the command structure, and if that structure is violated, it can cause casualties, it can lead to chaos, and that is exactly what these elected officials ... are fundamentally supporting."
