England's Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

Tim Southee's last Test for New Zealand was against the English side in the final month of 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The former New Zealand pace bowler is expected to be available for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Commenting as England's squad for the opening of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, Southee stated of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the present time.

"We will determine what happens over the next little while."

English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a bad Australian cricket team," he said.

"The team's attention is firmly on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is brilliant.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

However, before England head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
