Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.

However the primary talking point was the visitors' second score when the keeper gave away possession well beyond his box.

He ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.

However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those jeering episodes really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright jeering following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period showing.

Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game

Italy national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.

He stated following the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"The second goal was a error of mine, I take accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to kick the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult challenge to climb."

He said being booed "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on the team to stay increasingly composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are missing in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor defeat and it is tough to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on the same day.

Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to target.

Ten moments passed between Vicario exiting of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments after the kick.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the box for ages," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the back four returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a little additional time. After that it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and place it towards goal. I had a good feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

While the keeper's error led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.

The match was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the end of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come after Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.

"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a error from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
