The Two Fatalities Named in the Providence Campus Attack as Police Press On With Hunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter carried on following the release by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies publicly, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male arrested in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our city”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Officers that entered the hotel seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was arrested, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one pupil was allowed to go home, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Further Tributes

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his promising future.”
